On June 18, 2010, Union Laborers from the greater Seattle area showed their strength in numbers by supporting a rally at Puget Sound Energy headquarters in Bellevue, WA, hosted by the Seattle/King County Building Trades Council.  At issue is PSE hiring out-of-state contractor Barnard Construction, Inc. to rebuild both hydro-power facilities at Snoqualmie Falls, a $100 million project.  PSE has a long history of using non-Union contractors who often pay well below the area standard wage rates with questionable benefits.  Union Laborers, along with other Seattle/King County Building Trades affiliate members, have submitted over 110 job applications to Barnard Construction, Inc.   To date, not one of those well qualified construction workers was offered a position.
